Der edle Abstieg

„Mönche und Nonnen, ich will euch den edlen Abstieg lehren. Hört zu und gebraucht den Geist gut, ich werde sprechen.“

„Ja, Herr“, antworteten sie. Der Buddha sagte:

„Und was, Mönche und Nonnen, ist der edle Abstieg? Da überlegt ein edler Schüler: ‚Das Töten lebender Geschöpfe führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis sowohl in diesem als im nächsten Leben.‘ Wenn er so nachdenkt, gibt er das Töten lebender Geschöpfe auf, er steigt vom Töten lebender Geschöpfe herab.

… ‚Stehlen führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis sowohl in diesem als im nächsten Leben.‘ Wenn er so nachdenkt, gibt er das Stehlen auf, er steigt vom Stehlen herab.

… ‚Sexuelle Verfehlungen führen zu einem schlechten Ergebnis …‘ … er steigt von sexuellen Verfehlungen herab.

… ‚Lügen führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis …‘ … er steigt vom Lügen herab.

… ‚Entzweiende Rede führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis …‘ … er steigt von entzweiender Rede herab.

… ‚Harte Rede führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis …‘ … er steigt von harter Rede herab.

… ‚Unsinnreden führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis …‘ … er steigt vom Unsinnreden herab.

… ‚Begehrlichkeit führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis …‘ … er steigt von der Begehrlichkeit herab.

… ‚Böser Wille führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis …‘ … er steigt von bösem Willen herab.

… ‚Falsche Ansicht führt zu einem schlechten Ergebnis sowohl in diesem als im nächsten Leben.‘ Wenn er so nachdenkt, gibt er falsche Ansicht auf, er steigt von falscher Ansicht herab. Das nennt man den edlen Abstieg.“

The Noble Descent

“Mendicants, I will teach you the noble descent. Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak.”

“Yes, sir,” they replied. The Buddha said this:

“And what, mendicants, is the noble descent? It’s when a noble disciple reflects: ‘Killing living creatures has a bad result in the present life and in lives to come.’ Reflecting like this, they give up killing living creatures, they descend from killing living creatures.

… ‘Stealing has a bad result in the present life and in lives to come.’ Reflecting like this, they give up stealing, they descend from stealing.

… ‘Sexual misconduct has a bad result …’ … they descend from sexual misconduct.

… ‘Lying has a bad result …’ … they descend from lying.

… ‘Backbiting has a bad result …’ … they descend from backbiting.

… ‘Harsh speech has a bad result …’ … they descend from harsh speech.

… ‘Talking nonsense has a bad result …’ … they descend from talking nonsense.

… ‘Covetousness has a bad result …’ … they descend from covetousness.

… ‘Ill will has a bad result …’ … they descend from ill will.

… ‘Wrong view has a bad result both in the present life and in lives to come.’ Reflecting like this, they give up wrong view, they descend from wrong view. This is called the noble descent.”

Ariyapaccorohaṇīsutta

“Ariyaṁ vo, bhikkhave, paccorohaṇiṁ desessāmi. Taṁ suṇātha, sādhukaṁ manasi karotha, bhāsissāmī”ti.

“Evaṁ, bhante”ti kho te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṁ. Bhagavā etadavoca:

“Katamā ca, bhikkhave, ariyā paccorohaṇī? Idha, bhikkhave, ariyasāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati: ‘pāṇātipātassa kho pāpako vipāko— diṭṭhe ceva dhamme abhisamparāyañcā’ti. So iti paṭisaṅkhāya pāṇātipātaṁ pajahati; pāṇātipātā paccorohati.

… ‘Adinnādānassa kho pāpako vipāko— diṭṭhe ceva dhamme abhisamparāyañcā’ti. So iti paṭisaṅkhāya adinnādānaṁ pajahati; adinnādānā paccorohati.

… ‘Kāmesumicchācārassa kho pāpako vipāko …pe… kāmesumicchācārā paccorohati.

… ‘Musāvādassa kho pāpako vipāko …pe… musāvādā paccorohati.

… ‘Pisuṇāya vācāya kho pāpako vipāko …pe… pisuṇāya vācāya paccorohati.

… ‘Pharusāya vācāya kho pāpako vipāko …pe… pharusāya vācāya paccorohati.

… ‘Samphappalāpassa kho pāpako vipāko …pe… samphappalāpā paccorohati.

… ‘Abhijjhāya kho pāpako vipāko …pe… abhijjhāya paccorohati.

… ‘Byāpādassa kho pāpako vipāko …pe… byāpādā paccorohati.

… ‘Micchādiṭṭhiyā kho pāpako vipāko diṭṭhe ceva dhamme abhisamparāyañcā’ti. So iti paṭisaṅkhāya micchādiṭṭhiṁ pajahati; micchādiṭṭhiyā paccorohati. Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, ariyā paccorohaṇī”ti.
