„Mönche und Nonnen, es gibt diese drei Kennzeichen, Merkmale und Anzeichen eines Toren. Welche drei? Ein Tor denkt schlecht, redet schlecht und handelt schlecht. Wenn ein Tor nicht schlecht denken, reden und handeln würde, wie könnte ein kluger Mensch dann über ihn erkennen: ‚Dieser werte Mensch ist ein Tor, ein unwahrer Mensch‘? Aber da ein Tor schlecht denkt, redet und handelt, erkennt ein kluger Mensch über ihn: ‚Dieser werte Mensch ist ein Tor, ein unwahrer Mensch‘. Das sind die drei Kennzeichen, Merkmale und Anzeichen eines Toren.
Es gibt diese drei Kennzeichen, Merkmale und Anzeichen eines klugen Menschen. Welche drei? Ein kluger Mensch denkt gut, redet gut und handelt gut. Wenn ein kluger Mensch nicht gut denken, reden und handeln würde, wie könnte ein kluger Mensch dann über ihn erkennen: ‚Dieser werte Mensch ist klug, ein wahrer Mensch‘? Aber da ein kluger Mensch gut denkt, redet und handelt, erkennt ein kluger Mensch über ihn: ‚Dieser werte Mensch ist klug, ein wahrer Mensch‘. No cedaṁ, bhikkhave, bālo duccintitacintī ca abhavissa dubbhāsitabhāsī ca dukkaṭakammakārī ca, kena naṁ paṇḍitā jāneyyuṁ: ‘bālo ayaṁ bhavaṁ asappuriso’ti? Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, bālo duccintitacintī ca hoti dubbhāsitabhāsī ca dukkaṭakammakārī ca tasmā naṁ paṇḍitā jānanti: ‘bālo ayaṁ bhavaṁ asappuriso’ti.
