Mit Revata dem Zweifler

So habe ich es gehört: Einmal hielt sich der Buddha bei Sāvatthī in Jetas Wäldchen auf, dem Kloster des Anāthapiṇḍika. Zu dieser Zeit saß der Ehrwürdige Revata der Zweifler nicht weit vom Buddha, mit gekreuzten Beinen, den Körper gerade aufgerichtet, und betrachtete seine eigene Läuterung durch Überschreiten des Zweifels.

Der Buddha sah ihn dort meditieren.

Und da er diese Sache verstand, drückte der Buddha bei dieser Gelegenheit dieses innige Gefühl aus:

„Jegliche Zweifel am Hier oder am Jenseits, an dem, was man selbst erfährt und was andere erfahren: Wer meditiert, gibt sie alle auf, indem er eifrig das geistliche Leben übt.“

So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery. Now at that time Venerable Revata the Doubter was sitting not far from the Buddha, cross-legged, with his body straight, reviewing his own purification by traversing doubt.

The Buddha saw him meditating there.

Then, understanding this matter, on that occasion the Buddha expressed this heartfelt sentiment:

“Any doubts about this life or the next, about one’s own experiences or those of another: those who meditate give them all up, keenly practicing the spiritual life.”

Evaṁ me sutaṁ— ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme. Tena kho pana samayena āyasmā kaṅkhārevato bhagavato avidūre nisinno hoti pallaṅkaṁ ābhujitvā ujuṁ kāyaṁ paṇidhāya attano kaṅkhāvitaraṇavisuddhiṁ paccavekkhamāno.

Addasā kho bhagavā āyasmantaṁ kaṅkhārevataṁ avidūre nisinnaṁ pallaṅkaṁ ābhujitvā ujuṁ kāyaṁ paṇidhāya attano kaṅkhāvitaraṇavisuddhiṁ paccavekkhamānaṁ.

Atha kho bhagavā etamatthaṁ viditvā tāyaṁ velāyaṁ imaṁ udānaṁ udānesi:

“Yā kāci kaṅkhā idha vā huraṁ vā, Sakavediyā vā paravediyā vā; Ye jhāyino tā pajahanti sabbā, Ātāpino brahmacariyaṁ carantā”ti.
