4. Das Kapitel über die Schar der Hundert Schmeicheleien

Mit Pajjunnas Tochter (2)

So habe ich es gehört: Einmal hielt sich der Buddha bei Vesālī am Großen Wald auf, in der Halle mit dem Giebeldach.

Da kam spät in der Nacht die strahlende Kokanadā die Jüngere, Pajjunnas Tochter, die mit ihrer Schönheit den Großen Wald weithin erhellte, zum Buddha, verbeugte sich, stellte sich zur Seite hin und sagte in Gegenwart des Buddha diese Strophen auf:

„Wie ein Blitzstrahl so schön, so kam sie her, Kokanadā, Pajjunnas Tochter. Sie verehrte den Buddha und die Lehre und sprach diese Strophen voller Sinn.

Die Lehre ist von solcher Art, dass ich sie in vielfacher Weise aufgliedern könnte. Doch ich will kurz die Bedeutung darlegen, soweit ich sie auswendig gelernt habe.

Du sollst niemals in aller Welt mit Sprache, Geist oder Körper etwas Schlechtes tun. Wenn du Sinnenfreuden aufgegeben hast, achtsam und der Situation bewusst, sollst du nicht weiter tun, was schmerzhaft und nutzlos ist.“

With Pajjunna’s Daughter (2nd)

So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Vesālī, at the Great Wood, in the hall with the peaked roof.

Then, late at night, the glorious Kokanadā the Younger, Pajjunna’s daughter, lighting up the entire Great Wood, went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, and recited these verses in the Buddha’s presence:

“She came here, beautiful as a flash of lightning, Kokanadā, Pajjunna’s daughter. Revering the Buddha and the teaching, she spoke these verses full of meaning.

The teaching is such that I could analyze it in many different ways. However, I will state the meaning in brief as far as I have learned it by heart.

You should never do anything bad by speech or mind or body in all the world. Having given up sensual pleasures, <j>mindful and aware, you shouldn’t keep doing <j>what’s painful and pointless.”

Dutiyapajjunnadhītusuttaṁ

Evaṁ me sutaṁ— ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā vesāliyaṁ viharati mahāvane kūṭāgārasālāyaṁ.

Atha kho cūḷakokanadā pajjunnassa dhītā abhikkantāya rattiyā abhikkantavaṇṇā kevalakappaṁ mahāvanaṁ obhāsetvā yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ aṭṭhāsi. Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā cūḷakokanadā pajjunnassa dhītā bhagavato santike imā gāthāyo abhāsi:

“Idhāgamā vijjupabhāsavaṇṇā, Kokanadā pajjunnassa dhītā; Buddhañca dhammañca namassamānā, Gāthācimā atthavatī abhāsi.

Bahunāpi kho taṁ vibhajeyyaṁ, Pariyāyena tādiso dhammo; Saṅkhittamatthaṁ lapayissāmi, Yāvatā me manasā pariyattaṁ.

Pāpaṁ na kayirā vacasā manasā, Kāyena vā kiñcana sabbaloke; Kāme pahāya satimā sampajāno, Dukkhaṁ na sevetha anatthasaṁhitan”ti.
