13. Das Kapitel mit Hausbesitzern

Im Land der Vajjier

Einmal hielt sich der Buddha im Land der Vajjier bei Elefantendorf auf. Da ging der Hausbesitzer Ugga aus Elefantendorf zum Buddha, verbeugte sich, setzte sich zur Seite hin und sagte zu ihm:

„Was ist der Grund, Herr, was ist die Ursache, dass manche Lebewesen in eben diesem Leben nicht vollkommen erlöschen? Was ist der Grund, was ist die Ursache, dass manche Lebewesen in eben diesem Leben vollkommen erlöschen?“ …

In the Land of the Vajjis

At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Vajjis at Elephant Village. Then the householder Uggata of Elephant Village went up to the Buddha, sat down to one side, and said to him:

“What is the cause, sir, what is the reason why some sentient beings are not fully extinguished in this very life? What is the cause, sir, what is the reason why some sentient beings are fully extinguished in this very life?” …

Vajjīsutta

Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā vajjīsu viharati hatthigāme. Atha kho uggo gahapati hatthigāmako yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi. Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho uggo gahapati hatthigāmako bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:

“ko nu kho, bhante, hetu ko paccayo yena m’idhekacce sattā diṭṭheva dhamme no parinibbāyanti? Ko pana, bhante, hetu ko paccayo yena m’idhekacce sattā diṭṭheva dhamme parinibbāyantī”ti?

“Ayaṁ kho, gahapati, hetu ayaṁ paccayo yena m’idhekacce sattā diṭṭheva dhamme parinibbāyantī”ti.
