Mit Vaṅgīsa

Einmal hielt sich der Buddha bei Sāvatthī in Jetas Wäldchen auf, dem Kloster des Anāthapiṇḍika.

Nun hatte zu dieser Zeit Vaṅgīsa kürzlich die Vollendung erlangt. Während er die Seligkeit der Befreiung erfuhr, sagte er bei dieser Gelegenheit diese Strophen auf:

„Früher sind wir, trunken von Poesie, von Dorf zu Dorf, von Stadt zu Stadt gewandert. Dann sahen wir den Buddha, und Vertrauen kam in uns auf.

Er lehrte mich den Dhamma: die Aggregate, die Sinnesfelder und die Elemente. Als ich seine Lehre gehört hatte, zog ich fort ins hauslose Leben.

Es war wahrlich zum Segen Vieler, dass der Abgeklärte das Erwachen erreichte – für die Mönche und Nonnen, die sehen, dass sie Gewissheit erlangt haben.

Es war mir so willkommen, in der Gegenwart des Buddha zu sein. Das dreifache Wissen habe ich verwirklicht und die Anleitung des Buddha erfüllt.

Ich kenne meine früheren Leben und läuterte meine Hellsichtigkeit, ich bin Meister des dreifachen Wissens, habe übersinnliche Kraft erlangt, kundig im Erfassen des Geistes anderer.“

With Vaṅgīsa

At one time Venerable Vaṅgīsa was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery.

Now at that time Vaṅgīsa had recently attained perfection. While experiencing the bliss of freedom, on that occasion he recited these verses:

“We used to wander, drunk on poetry, village to village, town to town. Then we saw the Buddha, and faith arose in us.

He taught me Dhamma: the aggregates, sense fields, and elements. When I heard his teaching I went forth to homelessness.

It was truly for the benefit of many that the sage achieved awakening— for the monks and for the nuns who see that they’ve reached certainty.

It was so welcome for me to be in the presence of the Buddha. I’ve attained the three knowledges, and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.

I know my past lives, my clairvoyance is purified, I am master of three knowledges, <j>attained in psychic power, expert in encompassing the minds of others.”

Vaṅgīsasutta

Ekaṁ samayaṁ āyasmā vaṅgīso sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme.

Tena kho pana samayena āyasmā vaṅgīso aciraarahattappatto hutvā vimuttisukhaṁ paṭisaṁvedī tāyaṁ velāyaṁ imā gāthāyo abhāsi:

“Kāveyyamattā vicarimha pubbe, Gāmā gāmaṁ purā puraṁ; Athaddasāma sambuddhaṁ, Saddhā no upapajjatha.

So me dhammamadesesi, khandhāyatanadhātuyo; Tassāhaṁ dhammaṁ sutvāna, pabbajiṁ anagāriyaṁ.

Bahunnaṁ vata atthāya, bodhiṁ ajjhagamā muni; Bhikkhūnaṁ bhikkhunīnañca, ye niyāmagataddasā.

Svāgataṁ vata me āsi, mama buddhassa santike; Tisso vijjā anuppattā, kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ.

Pubbenivāsaṁ jānāmi, Dibbacakkhuṁ visodhitaṁ; Tevijjo iddhipattomhi, Cetopariyāyakovido”ti.
