Regarded as Foremost

Als Vorderste gelten

„Mönche und Nonnen, diese vier gelten als die Vordersten. Welche vier? Der Vorderste bei der Größe der Verkörperung ist Rāhu der Titanenfürst. Der Vorderste unter den Genussmenschen ist König Mandhātā. Der Vorderste bei der Herrschaftsgewalt ist Māra der Böse. Und der Klargewordene, der Vollendete, der vollkommen erwachte Buddha gilt in dieser Welt mit ihren Göttern, Māras und Brahmās, unter dieser Bevölkerung mit ihren Asketen und Brahmanen, Göttern und Menschen als der Beste. Das sind die vier, die als die Vordersten gelten.

Rāhu ist zuvorderst bei der Größe der Verkörperung,
Mandhātā beim Genuss von Sinnenfreuden,
Māra bei der Herrschaftsgewalt,
strahlend mit Macht und Glanz.

Nach oben, nach unten und ringsumher,
so weit der Wandelstern reicht,
gilt auf der ganzen Welt mit ihren Göttern
der Buddha als der Vorderste.“

Regarded as Foremost

“Mendicants, these four are regarded as foremost. What four? The foremost in size of incarnation is Rāhu, lord of titans. The foremost pleasure seeker is King Mandhātā. The foremost in sovereignty is Māra the Wicked. In this world—with its gods, Māras, and divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, gods and humans—a Realized One, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha is said to be the best. These are the four regarded as foremost.

Rāhu is foremost in size of incarnation,
Mandhātā in enjoying sensual pleasures,
Māra in sovereignty,
shining with power and glory.

Above, below, all round,
as far as the planet extends;
in all the world with its gods,
the Buddha is declared foremost.”

Paññattisutta

“Catasso imā, bhikkhave, aggapaññattiyo. Katamā catasso? Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, attabhāvīnaṁ yadidaṁ— rāhu asurindo. Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, kāmabhogīnaṁ yadidaṁ— rājā mandhātā. Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, ādhipateyyānaṁ yadidaṁ— māro pāpimā. Sadevake, bhikkhave, loke samārake sabrahmake sassamaṇabrāhmaṇiyā pajāya sadevamanussāya tathāgato aggamakkhāyati arahaṁ sammāsambuddho. Imā kho, bhikkhave, catasso aggapaññattiyoti.

Rāhuggaṁ attabhāvīnaṁ,
mandhātā kāmabhoginaṁ;
Māro ādhipateyyānaṁ,
iddhiyā yasasā jalaṁ.

Uddhaṁ tiriyaṁ apācīnaṁ,
yāvatājagatogati;
Sadevakassa lokassa,
buddho aggo pavuccatī”ti.
