Interest, choice and not grasping — cetanā and chanda in the web of conditions
Theravāda Abhidhamma · study record · cetanā, chanda & gotrabhū
A study record of an insight in meditation: three observations tested against canon, Abhidhamma and commentary — the room for decision one experiences lies between the arising of an impulse and going along with it (MN 19, SN 36.6), yet it is itself conditioned; the unconditioned is Nibbāna alone (Ud 8.3). With a clarification of “interest” (chanda, chandarāga, nandī, taṇhā, kusala-chanda), the simile of the park (SN 51.15) and the crossing at gotrabhū: there is choice — but no unconditioned chooser.

Cetanā, citta and the “flow of prāṇa”
Theravāda Abhidhamma · cetanā, cittaja-rūpa, vāyo-dhātu & kāyaviññatti
Does the “streaming” felt in intention and sense contact hold up as a “flow of prāṇa”? The Abhidhamma states the same finding more precisely: in the javana, cetanā produces mind-born matter (cittaja-rūpa) whose air element (vāyo-dhātu) carries bodily movement as kāyaviññatti. “Prāṇa”, channels and “vibration = vāyo” come from yoga/tantra/Daya Putih and from the modern practice traditions (U Ba Khin/Goenka, Mahasi); classical Theravāda has no counterpart to them.
