Mahākoṭṭhita
Still und reglos,
beim Ratgeben bedacht, nicht rastlos –
er schüttelt schlechte Eigenschaften ab
wie der Sturmwind Blätter vom Baum schüttelt.
So wurde diese Strophe vom Ehrwürdigen Mahākoṭṭhita, dem altehrwürdigen Mönch, aufgesagt.
Chapter One
Mahākoṭṭhita
Calm and still,
thoughtful in counsel, not restless—
he shakes off bad qualities
as the gale shakes leaves off a tree.
That is how this verse was recited by the senior venerable Mahākoṭṭhita.
Paṭhamavagga
Mahākoṭṭhikattheragāthā
“Upasanto uparato,
mantabhāṇī anuddhato;
Dhunāti pāpake dhamme,
dumapattaṁva māluto”ti.
Itthaṁ sudaṁ āyasmā mahākoṭṭhiko thero gāthaṁ abhāsitthāti.
