2. Das zweite Kapitel

Nanda

Weil ich den Geist unüberlegt gebrauchte,
war ich süchtig nach Verzierungen.
Ich war überheblich, launisch,
von Begierde nach den Freuden der Sinne geplagt.

Doch mithilfe des Buddha,
der mit der Sonne verwandt ist,
übte ich wohlüberlegt und zog die Bindung
an fortgesetztes Dasein aus meinem Geist heraus.

Chapter Two

Nanda

Because of focusing on the wrong things,
I was addicted to ornamentation.
I was vain, fickle,
racked by desire for pleasures of the senses.

But with the help of the Buddha,
the Kinsman of the Sun, so skilled in means,
I practiced rationally and extracted
attachment to continued existence from my mind.

Nandattheragāthā

“Ayoniso manasikārā,
maṇḍanaṁ anuyuñjisaṁ;
Uddhato capalo cāsiṁ,
kāmarāgena aṭṭito.

Upāyakusalenāhaṁ,
buddhenādiccabandhunā;
Yoniso paṭipajjitvā,
bhave cittaṁ udabbahin”ti.
