Valliya (2)

Ein Affe ging zu der kleinen Hütte
mit fünf Türen.
Er umrundet sie, klopft an alle Türen,
wieder und wieder.

Steh still, Affe, renne nicht!
Die Dinge sind jetzt anders:
Du wurdest von der Weisheit eingefangen –
du wirst nicht weit kommen.

Chapter One

Valliya (2nd)

A monkey went up to the little hut
with five doors.
He circles around, knocking
on each door, again and again.

Stand still monkey, don’t run!
Things are different now;
you’ve been caught by wisdom—
you won’t go far.

“Makkaṭo pañcadvārāyaṁ,
kuṭikāyaṁ pasakkiya;
Dvārena anupariyeti,
ghaṭṭayanto muhuṁ muhuṁ.

Tiṭṭha makkaṭa mā dhāvi,
na hi te taṁ yathā pure;
Niggahītosi paññāya,
neva dūraṁ gamissatī”ti.
