Aṅgaṇikabhāradvāja

1. Das erste Kapitel

Indem ich auf falsche Art Reinheit suchte,
huldigte ich der heiligen Flamme im Wald.
Den Pfad zur Reinheit kannte ich nicht
und übte endlos inbrünstige Buße.

Ich habe Glück durch Glück gewonnen:
Sieh’ die klare Richtigkeit der Lehre!
Das dreifache Wissen habe ich verwirklicht
und die Anleitung des Buddha erfüllt.

Früher war ich Brahmane nur der Verwandtschaft nach,
jetzt bin ich tatsächlich ein Brahmane!
Ich bin Meister des dreifachen Wissens, ein gebadeter Eingeweihter,
ein Gelehrter und Wissensmeister.

Chapter One

Aṅgaṇikabhāradvāja

Seeking purity the wrong way,
I served the sacred fire in a grove.
Not knowing the path to purity,
I practiced endless mortification.

I’ve gained this happiness by means of happiness:
behold the clear rightness of the teaching!
I’ve attained the three knowledges
and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.

I used to be brahmin only by kin,
but now I really am a brahmin!
I am master of the three knowledges, <j>I’m a bathed initiate,
I’m a scholar and a knowledge master.

Paṭhamavagga

Aṅgaṇikabhāradvājattheragāthā

“Ayoni suddhimanvesaṁ,
aggiṁ paricariṁ vane;
Suddhimaggaṁ ajānanto,
akāsiṁ amaraṁ tapaṁ.

Taṁ sukhena sukhaṁ laddhaṁ,
passa dhammasudhammataṁ;
Tisso vijjā anuppattā,
kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ.

Brahmabandhu pure āsiṁ,
idāni khomhi brāhmaṇo;
Tevijjo nhātako camhi,
sottiyo camhi vedagū”ti.
