Bākula
Bākulattheragāthā
from: The Book of the Threes
1. Das erste Kapitel
Bākula
Jeder, der nachher tun will,
was er vorher hätte tun sollen,
hat die Grundlage für Glück verloren
und wird später von Reue geplagt.
Du sollst nur sagen, was du auch tun willst;
du sollst nicht sagen, was du nicht tun willst.
Die Klugen werden einen erkennen,
der redet, ohne zu tun.
Ach! Das Erlöschen ist so überaus selig,
wie es vom vollkommen erwachten Buddha gelehrt wird:
ohne Kummer, unbefleckt, sicher –
dort, wo das Leiden endet.
Chapter One
Bākula
Whoever wishes to do afterwards
what they should have done before
has lost the causes for happiness,
and afterwards they’re tormented by regrets.
You should only say what you would do;
you shouldn’t say what you wouldn’t do.
The wise will recognize
one who talks without doing.
Oh! Extinguishment is so very blissful,
as taught by the fully awakened Buddha:
sorrowless, stainless, secure,
where suffering all ceases.

Bākulattheragāthā
“Yo pubbe karaṇīyāni,
pacchā so kātumicchati;
Sukhā so dhaṁsate ṭhānā,
pacchā ca manutappati.
Yañhi kayirā tañhi vade,
yaṁ na kayirā na taṁ vade;
Akarontaṁ bhāsamānaṁ,
parijānanti paṇḍitā.
Susukhaṁ vata nibbānaṁ,
sammāsambuddhadesitaṁ;
Asokaṁ virajaṁ khemaṁ,
yattha dukkhaṁ nirujjhatī”ti.
