1. Das erste Kapitel

Vassika

Ich war der Einzige in meiner Familie,
der Vertrauen und Weisheit besaß.
Es ist segensreich für meine Verwandten,
dass ich standhaft in Grundsätzen und tugendhaft bin.

Ich rügte meine Familie aus Anteilnahme,
wies sie zurecht aus Liebe
zu meiner Familie und den Verwandten.
Sie taten den Mönchen einen Dienst

und dann verschieden sie
und fanden Glück im dritten Himmel.
Dort genießen meine Brüder und meine Mutter
alle Freuden, die sie sich wünschen.

Chapter One

Vassika

I was the only one in my family
who had faith and wisdom.
It’s good for my relatives that I’m
firm in principle, and ethical.

I corrected my family out of sympathy,
telling them off out of love
for my family and relatives.
They performed a service for the monks

and then they passed away,
finding happiness in the Third Heaven.
There, my brothers and mother
enjoy all the pleasures they desire.

Vassikattheragāthā

“Ekopi saddho medhāvī,
assaddhānīdha ñātinaṁ;
Dhammaṭṭho sīlasampanno,
hoti atthāya bandhunaṁ.

Niggayha anukampāya,
coditā ñātayo mayā;
Ñātibandhavapemena,
kāraṁ katvāna bhikkhusu.

Te abbhatītā kālaṅkatā,
pattā te tidivaṁ sukhaṁ;
Bhātaro mayhaṁ mātā ca,
modanti kāmakāmino”ti.
