1. Das erste Kapitel

Vaḍḍha

Ach so gut war die Peitsche,
die meine Mutter mir zeigte!
Als ich ihre Worte hörte,
von meiner Mutter angeleitet,
verwirklichte ich, energisch und entschlossen,
das höchste Erwachen.

Ich bin vollendet, der Spenden würdig,
Meister des dreifachen Wissens, der sieht, was frei vom Tod ist.
Das Heer des Todes habe ich besiegt
und lebe ohne Befleckungen.

Diese Befleckungen, die es in mir gab,
sowohl innerlich als auch äußerlich,
sind alle restlos abgeschnitten
und werden nicht wieder erscheinen.

Meine selbstbewusste Schwester
sagte zu mir:
„Jetzt haben weder du noch ich
irgendein Gewirr.“

Das Leiden ist zu Ende;
dieser Sack voll Knochen ist mein letzter
im Umherwandern durch Geburten und Tode;
künftige Leben wird es jetzt nicht mehr geben.

Chapter One

Vaḍḍha

Oh so well was the goad
shown to me by my mother,
on hearing whose words,
advised by my mother,
energetic and resolute,
I realized supreme awakening.

I’m perfected, worthy of offerings,
master of the three knowledges, <j>seer of freedom from death.
I’ve conquered the army of Namuci,
and live without defilements.

Those defilements that were found in me,
internally and externally,
are all cut off without remainder,
and will not arise again.

My self-assured sister
said this to me:
‘Now neither you nor I
have any snarls.’

Suffering is at an end;
this bag of bones is my last
in the transmigration through births and deaths;
now there’ll be no more future lives.”

Paṭhamavagga

Vaḍḍhattheragāthā

“Sādhū hi kira me mātā,
Patodaṁ upadaṁsayi;
Yassāhaṁ vacanaṁ sutvā,
Anusiṭṭho janettiyā;
Āraddhavīriyo pahitatto,
Patto sambodhimuttamaṁ.

Arahā dakkhiṇeyyomhi,
tevijjo amataddaso;
Jetvā namucino senaṁ,
viharāmi anāsavo.

Ajjhattañca bahiddhā ca,
ye me vijjiṁsu āsavā;
Sabbe asesā ucchinnā,
na ca uppajjare puna.

Visāradā kho bhaginī,
etamatthaṁ abhāsayi;
‘Apihā nūna mayipi,
vanatho te na vijjati’.

Pariyantakataṁ dukkhaṁ,
antimoyaṁ samussayo;
Jātimaraṇasaṁsāro,
natthi dāni punabbhavo”ti.
