Mittā (2)

Ich erfreute mich bei der Götterschar:
Den Besinnungstag habe ich eingehalten,
vollständig mit allen acht Faktoren,
am vierzehnten und fünfzehnten Tag

und am achten Tag der Monatshälfte
sowie bei den vierzehntägigen besonderen Darbietungen.
Heute esse ich nur einmal am Tag,
mein Kopf ist geschoren, ich trage die äußere Robe.
Nach Götterscharen sehne ich mich nicht,
denn jeglicher Druck ist von meinem Herzen gelöst.

Mittā (2nd)

I rejoiced in the host of gods,
having observed the sabbath
complete in all eight factors,
on the fourteenth and the fifteenth days,

and the eighth day of the fortnight,
as well as on the fortnightly special displays.
Today I eat just once a day,
my head is shaven, I wear the outer robe.
I don’t long for the host of gods,
for stress has been removed from my heart.

Mittātherīgāthā

“Cātuddasiṁ pañcadasiṁ,
yā ca pakkhassa aṭṭhamī;
Pāṭihāriyapakkhañca,
aṭṭhaṅgasusamāgataṁ.

Uposathaṁ upāgacchiṁ,
devakāyābhinandinī;
Sājja ekena bhattena,
muṇḍā saṅghāṭipārutā;
Devakāyaṁ na patthehaṁ,
vineyya hadaye daran”ti.
