Uttamā

Fünf oder sechsmal
ging ich aus meiner Hütte.
Ich konnte keinen Frieden im Herzen finden,
noch gelang es mir, meinen Geist zu beherrschen.

Ich ging zu einer Nonne,
zu der ich Vertrauen hatte.
Sie lehrte mich den Dhamma:
die Aggregate, die Sinnesfelder und die Elemente.

Als ich ihre Unterweisung gehört hatte,
saß ich, ihrer Anleitung folgend,
sieben Tage mit gekreuzten Beinen reglos da,
ganz hingegeben an Ekstase und Seligkeit.
Am achten Tag streckte ich meine Füße aus:
Die Masse der Dunkelheit hatte ich zerschmettert.

Uttamā

Four or five times
I left my dwelling.
I had failed to find peace of heart,
or any control over my mind.

I approached a nun
in whom I had faith.
She taught me the Dhamma:
the aggregates, sense fields, and elements.

When I had heard her teaching,
in accordance with her instructions,
I sat cross-legged for seven days without moving,
given over to rapture and bliss.
On the eighth day I stretched out my feet,
having shattered the mass of darkness.

Uttamātherīgāthā

“Catukkhattuṁ pañcakkhattuṁ,
vihārā upanikkhamiṁ;
Aladdhā cetaso santiṁ,
citte avasavattinī.

Sā bhikkhuniṁ upagacchiṁ,
yā me saddhāyikā ahu;
Sā me dhammamadesesi,
khandhāyatanadhātuyo.

Tassā dhammaṁ suṇitvāna,
Yathā maṁ anusāsi sā;
Sattāhaṁ ekapallaṅkena,
Nisīdiṁ pītisukhasamappitā;
Aṭṭhamiyā pāde pasāresiṁ,
Tamokhandhaṁ padāliyā”ti.
