A Sword

Ein Schwert

In Sāvatthī.

Als sie sich zur Seite hingestellt hatte, sagte diese Gottheit in Gegenwart des Buddha diese Strophe auf:

„Wie wenn er von einem Schwert getroffen wäre,
wie wenn sein Kopf in Flammen stünde,
so soll ein Mönch achtsam wandern,
um sinnliche Begierde aufzugeben.“

„Wie wenn er von einem Schwert getroffen wäre,
wie wenn sein Kopf in Flammen stünde,
so soll ein Mönch achtsam wandern,
um jede substanzialistische Ansicht aufzugeben.“

At Sāvatthī.

Standing to one side, that deity spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence:

“Like they’re struck by a sword,
like their head was on fire,
a mendicant, mindful, should go forth,
to give up sensual desire.”

“Like they’re struck by a sword,
like their head was on fire,
a mendicant, mindful, should go forth,
to give up substantialist view.”

Sattisutta

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:

“Sattiyā viya omaṭṭho,
ḍayhamānova matthake;
Kāmarāgappahānāya,
sato bhikkhu paribbaje”ti.

“Sattiyā viya omaṭṭho,
ḍayhamānova matthake;
Sakkāyadiṭṭhippahānāya,
sato bhikkhu paribbaje”ti.
