Cut How Many?

Wie viele zu zerschneiden?
In Sāvatthī.
Als sie sich zur Seite hingestellt hatte, sagte diese Gottheit in Gegenwart des Buddha diese Strophe auf:
„Wie viele zu zerschneiden? Wie viele fallen zu lassen?
Wie viele mehr noch zu entwickeln?
Wenn ein Mönch wie vielen Ketten entschlüpft,
heißt es, er hat die Flut überquert?“
„Fünf zu zerschneiden, fünf fallen zu lassen,
fünf mehr noch zu entwickeln:
Wenn ein Mönch fünf Ketten entschlüpft,
heißt es, er hat die Flut überquert.“
Cut How Many?
At Sāvatthī.
Standing to one side, that deity spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
“Cut how many? Drop how many?
Develop how many more?
When a mendicant slips how many chains
are they said to have crossed the flood?”
“Five to cut, five to drop,
and five more to develop.
When a mendicant slips five chains
they’re said to have crossed the flood.”
Katichindasutta
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
“Kati chinde kati jahe,
kati cuttari bhāvaye;
Kati saṅgātigo bhikkhu,
oghatiṇṇoti vuccatī”ti.
“Pañca chinde pañca jahe,
pañca cuttari bhāvaye;
Pañca saṅgātigo bhikkhu,
oghatiṇṇoti vuccatī”ti.
