„Mönche und Nonnen, die Vielfalt der Elemente führt zur Vielfalt der Kontakte, und die Vielfalt der Kontakte führt zur Vielfalt der Gefühle. Und was ist die Vielfalt der Elemente? Das Augenelement, das Ohrelement, das Nasenelement, das Zungenelement, das Körperelement und das Geistelement – das nennt man die Vielfalt der Elemente.

Und wie führt die Vielfalt der Elemente zur Vielfalt der Kontakte und die Vielfalt der Kontakte zur Vielfalt der Gefühle? Das Augenelement führt zu einem Augenkontakt; der Augenkontakt führt zu einem aus Augenkontakt entsprungenen Gefühl. … Das Geistelement führt zu einem Geistkontakt; der Geistkontakt führt zu einem aus Geistkontakt entsprungenen Gefühl. So führt die Vielfalt der Elemente zur Vielfalt der Kontakte und die Vielfalt der Kontakte zur Vielfalt der Gefühle.“

Diversity of Feelings

“Mendicants, diversity of elements gives rise to diversity of contacts, and diversity of contacts gives rise to diversity of feelings. And what is the diversity of elements? The eye element, ear element, nose element, tongue element, body element, and mind element. This is called the diversity of elements.

And how does diversity of elements give rise to diversity of contacts, and diversity of contacts gives rise to diversity of feelings? The eye element gives rise to eye contact. Eye contact gives rise to the feeling born of eye contact. … The mind element gives rise to mind contact. Mind contact gives rise to the feeling born of mind contact. That’s how diversity of elements gives rise to diversity of contacts, and diversity of contacts gives rise to diversity of feelings.”

Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.

“Dhātunānattaṁ, bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati phassanānattaṁ, phassanānattaṁ paṭicca uppajjati vedanānānattaṁ. Katamañca, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaṁ? Cakkhudhātu …pe… manodhātu— idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaṁ.

Kathañca, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaṁ paṭicca uppajjati phassanānattaṁ, phassanānattaṁ paṭicca uppajjati vedanānānattaṁ? Cakkhudhātuṁ, bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati cakkhusamphasso, cakkhusamphassaṁ paṭicca uppajjati cakkhusamphassajā vedanā …pe… manodhātuṁ paṭicca uppajjati manosamphasso, manosamphassaṁ paṭicca uppajjati manosamphassajā vedanā. Evaṁ kho, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaṁ paṭicca uppajjati phassanānattaṁ, phassanānattaṁ paṭicca uppajjati vedanānānattan”ti.
