With Candana

Mit Candana

Als er sich zur Seite hingestellt hatte, redete der Ortsgott Candana den Buddha mit einer Strophe an:

„Wer überquert hier die Flut,
unermüdlich Tag und Nacht?
Wer versinkt nicht in der Tiefe,
wenn er nicht steht und nicht gehalten wird?“

„Wer allseits die Tugend vervollkommnet hat,
weise und gesammelt ist,
energisch und entschlossen,
überquert die Flut, die so schwer zu überqueren ist.

Wer sinnlicher Wahrnehmung widersteht,
die Fessel der Form hinter sich gelassen
und mit Genießen und Gier abgeschlossen hat,
versinkt nicht in der Tiefe.“

Standing to one side, the godling Candana addressed the Buddha in verse:

“Who here crosses the flood,
tireless all day and night?
Who, not standing and unsupported,
does not sink in the deep?”

“Someone who is always endowed with ethics,
wise and serene,
energetic and resolute,
crosses the flood so hard to cross.

Someone who desists from sensual perception,
has moved past the fetter of form,
and has finished with relishing and greed
does not sink in the deep.”

Candanasutta

Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho candano devaputto bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi:

“Kathaṁsu tarati oghaṁ,
rattindivamatandito;
Appatiṭṭhe anālambe,
ko gambhīre na sīdatī”ti.

“Sabbadā sīlasampanno,
Paññavā susamāhito;
Āraddhavīriyo pahitatto,
Oghaṁ tarati duttaraṁ.

Virato kāmasaññāya,
rūpasaṁyojanātigo;
Nandīrāgaparikkhīṇo,
so gambhīre na sīdatī”ti.
