Mit Nandivisāla
Als er sich zur Seite hingestellt hatte, redete der Ortsgott Nandivisāla den Buddha mit einer Strophe an:
„Vier Räder hat es und neun Türen,
ist vollgestopft, mit Gier verbunden
und aus Unrat geboren.
Großer Held, wie werde ich durchhalten?“
„Wenn Riemen und Geschirr durchschnitten sind –
die üblen Wünsche und die Gier –
und das Verlangen ausgerissen ist mit Stumpf und Stiel:
So wirst du durchhalten.“
With Nandivisāla
Standing to one side, the godling Nandivisāla addressed the Buddha in verse:
“Four are its wheels, and nine its doors;
it’s stuffed full, bound with greed,
and born from a bog.
Great hero, how will I keep going?”
“Having cut the strap and harness—
wicked desire and greed—
and having plucked out craving, root and all:
that’s how you will keep going.”
Nandivisālasutta
Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho nandivisālo devaputto bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi:
“Catucakkaṁ navadvāraṁ,
puṇṇaṁ lobhena saṁyutaṁ;
Paṅkajātaṁ mahāvīra,
kathaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti.
“Chetvā naddhiṁ varattañca,
icchālobhañca pāpakaṁ;
Samūlaṁ taṇhamabbuyha,
evaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti.
