Das Sehnen aufgeben
In Sāvatthī.
„Mönche und Nonnen, ihr sollt jegliches Sehnen, Begehren, Genießen und Verlangen in Bezug auf Form aufgeben. So wird diese Form aufgegeben, an der Wurzel abgeschnitten, wird wie der Stumpf einer Palme, wird ausgelöscht und kann sich in Zukunft nicht mehr erheben.
Ihr sollt jegliches Sehnen, Begehren, Genießen und Verlangen in Bezug auf Gefühl … in Bezug auf Wahrnehmung … in Bezug auf Willensbildungsprozesse … in Bezug auf Bewusstsein aufgeben. So wird dieses Bewusstsein aufgegeben, an der Wurzel abgeschnitten, wird wie der Stumpf einer Palme, wird ausgelöscht und kann sich in Zukunft nicht mehr erheben.“
Giving Up Desire

“Mendicants, you should give up any desire, greed, relishing, and craving for form. Thus that form will be given up, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, obliterated, and unable to arise in the future.

“Rūpe, bhikkhave, yo chando yo rāgo yā nandī yā taṇhā, taṁ pajahatha. Evaṁ taṁ rūpaṁ pahīnaṁ bhavissati ucchinnamūlaṁ tālāvatthukataṁ anabhāvaṅkataṁ āyatiṁ anuppādadhammaṁ.
Vedanāya …pe… saññāya … saṅkhāresu … viññāṇe yo chando yo rāgo yā nandī yā taṇhā, taṁ pajahatha. Evaṁ taṁ viññāṇaṁ pahīnaṁ bhavissati ucchinnamūlaṁ tālāvatthukataṁ anabhāvaṅkataṁ āyatiṁ anuppādadhamman”ti.
