„Mönche und Nonnen, gebt auf, was nicht euer ist. Es aufzugeben, wird zu eurem Nutzen und Glück sein. Und was ist nicht euer? Bilder sind nicht euer: Gebt sie auf. Sie aufzugeben, wird zu eurem Nutzen und Glück sein.

Töne, Gerüche, Geschmäcke, Berührungen und Vorstellungen sind nicht euer: Gebt sie auf. Sie aufzugeben, wird zu eurem Nutzen und Glück sein.

Wie wenn ein Mensch Gras, Stängel, Zweige und Blätter hier in Jetas Wäldchen wegtragen oder verbrennen würde, oder er täte damit, was er wollte …

Ebenso sind Bilder, Töne, Gerüche, Geschmäcke, Berührungen und Vorstellungen nicht euer: Gebt sie auf. Sie aufzugeben, wird zu eurem Nutzen und Glück sein.“

“Mendicants, give up what’s not yours. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness. And what isn’t yours? Sights aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.

Sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and ideas aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.

Suppose a person was to carry off the grass, sticks, branches, and leaves in this Jeta’s Grove …

In the same way, sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and ideas aren’t yours: give them up. Giving them up will be for your welfare and happiness.”

“Yaṁ, bhikkhave, na tumhākaṁ, taṁ pajahatha. Taṁ vo pahīnaṁ hitāya sukhāya bhavissati. Kiñca, bhikkhave, na tumhākaṁ? Rūpā, bhikkhave, na tumhākaṁ; te pajahatha. Te vo pahīnā hitāya sukhāya bhavissanti.
