„Mönche und Nonnen, gebraucht den Geist wohlüberlegt für das Auge. Seht wahrhaftig die Unbeständigkeit des Auges. Wenn ein Mönch das tut, wird er vom Auge ernüchtert. Wenn Genießen endet, endet Gier. Wenn Gier endet, endet Genießen. Wenn Genießen und Gier enden, ist der Geist befreit und gilt als gut befreit.

Gebraucht den Geist wohlüberlegt für das Ohr … die Nase … die Zunge … den Körper … den Geist. Seht wahrhaftig die Unbeständigkeit des Geistes. Wenn ein Mönch das tut, wird er vom Geist ernüchtert. “Mendicants, rationally apply the mind to the eye. Truly see the impermanence of the eye. When a mendicant does this, they grow disillusioned with the eye. When relishing ends, greed ends. When greed ends, relishing ends. When relishing and greed end, the mind is said to be well freed.

Cakkhuṁ, bhikkhave, bhikkhu yoniso manasikaronto, cakkhāniccatañca yathābhūtaṁ samanupassanto cakkhusmimpi nibbindati. Nandikkhayā rāgakkhayo; rāgakkhayā nandikkhayo. Nandirāgakkhayā cittaṁ suvimuttanti vuccati.
