Geistlos

Da ging ein Mönch zum Buddha … und sagte zu ihm: „Herr, man spricht von einem, der ‚ein geistloser Trottel‘ ist. Inwiefern ist einer ein geistloser Trottel?“

„Mönch, man nennt ihn einen geistlosen Trottel, weil er die sieben Faktoren des Erwachens nicht entwickelt und gemehrt hat. Welche sieben? Die Faktoren des Erwachens Achtsamkeit, Erforschung der Gesetzmäßigkeiten, Energie, Ekstase, Stille, Versenkung und Gleichmut. Man nennt ihn einen geistlosen Trottel, weil er diese sieben Faktoren des Erwachens nicht entwickelt und gemehrt hat.“

Witless

Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha … and asked him, “Sir, they speak of ‘a witless idiot’. How is a witless idiot defined?”

“Mendicant, they’re called a witless idiot because they haven’t developed and cultivated the seven awakening factors. What seven? The awakening factors of mindfulness, investigation of principles, energy, rapture, tranquility, immersion, and equanimity. They’re called a witless idiot because they haven’t developed and cultivated these seven awakening factors.”

Duppaññasutta

Atha kho aññataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami …pe… ekamantaṁ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaṁ etadavoca: “‘duppañño eḷamūgo, duppañño eḷamūgo’ti, bhante, vuccati. Kittāvatā nu kho, bhante, ‘duppañño eḷamūgo’ti vuccatī”ti?

“Sattannaṁ kho, bhikkhu, bojjhaṅgānaṁ abhāvitattā abahulīkatattā ‘duppañño eḷamūgo’ti vuccati. Katamesaṁ sattannaṁ? Satisambojjhaṅgassa …pe… upekkhāsambojjhaṅgassa— imesaṁ kho, bhikkhu, sattannaṁ bojjhaṅgānaṁ abhāvitattā abahulīkatattā ‘duppañño eḷamūgo’ti vuccatī”ti.
