Das Weltmeer (2)
„Mönche und Nonnen, angenommen, das Wasser im Weltmeer würde bis auf zwei oder drei Tropfen austrocknen und verdunsten.
Was meint ihr, Mönche und Nonnen? Was ist mehr: das Wasser des Weltmeeres, das ausgetrocknet und verdunstet ist, oder die zwei oder drei verbliebenen Tropfen?“
„Herr, das Wasser des Weltmeeres, das ausgetrocknet und verdunstet ist, ist viel mehr. Die zwei oder drei verbliebenen Tropfen sind winzig. Verglichen mit dem Wasser des Weltmeeres, das ausgetrocknet und verdunstet ist, zählen sie nicht, da gibt es keinen Vergleich, sie sind nicht einen Bruchteil wert.“
„Ebenso ist für einen edlen Schüler …
Aus diesem Grund sollt ihr Meditation üben – um zu verstehen: ‚Das ist das Leiden.‘ … ‚Das ist die Übung, die zum Aufhören des Leidens führt.‘“
The Ocean (2nd)
“Mendicants, suppose the water in the ocean dried up and evaporated except for two or three drops.
What do you think, mendicants? Which is more: the water in the ocean that has dried up and evaporated, or the two or three drops left?”
“Sir, the water in the ocean that has dried up and evaporated is certainly more. The two or three drops left are tiny. Compared to the water in the ocean that has dried up and evaporated, it doesn’t count, there’s no comparison, it’s not worth a fraction.”

“Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, mahāsamudde udakaṁ parikkhayaṁ pariyādānaṁ gaccheyya ṭhapetvā dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni.
Taṁ kiṁ maññatha, bhikkhave, katamaṁ nu kho bahutaraṁ—yaṁ vā mahāsamudde udakaṁ parikkhīṇaṁ pariyādinnaṁ, yāni dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni avasiṭṭhānī”ti?
“Etadeva, bhante, bahutaraṁ mahāsamudde udakaṁ yadidaṁ parikkhīṇaṁ pariyādinnaṁ; appamattakāni dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni avasiṭṭhāni. Saṅkhampi na upenti, upanidhampi na upenti, kalabhāgampi na upenti mahāsamudde udakaṁ parikkhīṇaṁ pariyādinnaṁ upanidhāya dve vā tīṇi vā udakaphusitāni avasiṭṭhānī”ti.
