3. Das dritte Kapitel
Geben
Das wurde vom Buddha, dem Vollendeten, gesagt; das habe ich gehört:
„Mönche und Nonnen, wenn die Lebewesen bloß die Frucht des Gebens und Teilens kennen würden so wie ich, würden sie nicht essen, ohne zuvor gegeben zu haben, und der Fleck des Geizes würde ihren Geist nicht gefangen halten. Sie würden nicht essen, ohne selbst ihren letzten Brocken zu teilen, ihren letzten Bissen, solange ein Empfänger da wäre. Weil die Lebewesen die Frucht des Gebens und Teilens nicht kennen so wie ich, essen sie, ohne zuvor gegeben zu haben, und der Fleck des Geizes hält ihren Geist gefangen.“
Der Buddha sprach diese Sache. Dazu wird gesagt:
„Wenn die Lebewesen bloß wüssten, wie groß die Frucht des Gebens und Teilens ist, wie vom großen Seher gelehrt!
Den Fleck des Geizes entfernt, klaren und zuversichtlichen Herzens, würden sie gebührend den Edlen spenden, da, wo eine Gabe sehr fruchtbar ist.
Wenn sie denen, die einer religiösen Gabe würdig sind, reichlich Speise gespendet haben, wenn sie dann aus der Menschenwelt scheiden, gehen die Spender zum Himmel.
Und wenn sie dorthin, in den Himmel, gekommen sind, genießen sie alle Freuden, die sie sich wünschen. Die Großzügigen genießen die Frucht des Gebens und Teilens.“
Auch das ist eine Sache, die vom Gesegneten gesprochen wurde: Das habe ich gehört.
Chapter Three
Giving
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
“Mendicants, if sentient beings only knew, as I do, the fruit of giving and sharing, they would not eat without first giving, and the stain of stinginess would not occupy their minds. They would not eat without sharing even their last mouthful, their last morsel, so long as there was someone to receive it. It is because sentient beings do not know, as I do, the fruit of giving and sharing, that they eat without first giving, and the stain of stinginess occupies their minds.”
The Buddha spoke this matter. On this it is said:
“If sentient beings only knew how great is the fruit of giving and sharing as taught by the great seer!
Rid of the stain of stinginess, with clear and confident heart, they would duly give to the noble ones, where a gift is very fruitful.
Having given food in abundance to those worthy of a religious donation, after passing from the human realm, the givers go to heaven.
And when they have arrived there in heaven, they enjoy all the pleasures they desire. The generous enjoy the fruit of giving and sharing.”
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
Tatiyavagga
Dānasutta
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
“Evañce, bhikkhave, sattā jāneyyuṁ dānasaṁvibhāgassa vipākaṁ yathāhaṁ jānāmi, na adatvā bhuñjeyyuṁ, na ca nesaṁ maccheramalaṁ cittaṁ pariyādāya tiṭṭheyya. Yopi nesaṁ assa carimo ālopo carimaṁ kabaḷaṁ, tatopi na asaṁvibhajitvā bhuñjeyyuṁ, sace nesaṁ paṭiggāhakā assu. Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, sattā na evaṁ jānanti dānasaṁvibhāgassa vipākaṁ yathāhaṁ jānāmi, tasmā adatvā bhuñjanti, maccheramalañca nesaṁ cittaṁ pariyādāya tiṭṭhatī”ti.
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
“Evañce sattā jāneyyuṁ, yathāvuttaṁ mahesinā; Vipākaṁ saṁvibhāgassa, yathā hoti mahapphalaṁ.
Vineyya maccheramalaṁ, vippasannena cetasā; Dajjuṁ kālena ariyesu, yattha dinnaṁ mahapphalaṁ.
Annañca datvā bahuno, dakkhiṇeyyesu dakkhiṇaṁ; Ito cutā manussattā, saggaṁ gacchanti dāyakā.
Te ca saggagatā tattha, modanti kāmakāmino; Vipākaṁ saṁvibhāgassa, anubhonti amaccharā”ti.
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
