Jemand lebt am Fuß eines Baumes aus Einfalt und Dummheit … aus unlauteren Wünschen heraus … weil er verwirrt oder geisteskrank ist … weil es von den Buddhas gepriesen wird … um der Genügsamkeit willen … Das sind die Fünf, die am Fuß eines Baumes leben.“

“Mendicants, there are these five who dwell at the root of a tree. What five? One may dwell at the root of a tree because of stupidity … corrupt wishes … madness … because it is praised by the Buddhas … or for the sake of having few wishes … These are the five who dwell at the root of a tree.”

“Pañcime, bhikkhave, rukkhamūlikā. Katame pañca? Mandattā momūhattā rukkhamūliko hoti …pe… idamatthitaṁyeva nissāya rukkhamūliko hoti. Ime kho, bhikkhave, pañca rukkhamūlikā”ti.
