Gaṅgātīriya

Meine Hütte am Ufer des Ganges
ist aus drei Palmblättern gemacht.
Meine Almosenschale ist von einer Leiche genommen,
meine Robe besteht aus weggeworfenen Fetzen.

In meinen ersten beiden Regenzeiten
sprach ich nur ein Wort.
In meiner dritten Regenzeit
war die Masse der Dunkelheit zerschmettert.

Chapter One

Gaṅgātīriya

My hut on the bank of the Ganges
is made from three palm leaves.
My alms-bowl is a funeral pot,
my robe is cast-off rags.

In my first two rainy seasons
I spoke only one word.
In my third rainy season
the mass of darkness was shattered.

Paṭhamavagga

Gaṅgātīriyattheragāthā

“Tiṇṇaṁ me tālapattānaṁ,
gaṅgātīre kuṭī katā;
Chavasittova me patto,
paṁsukūlañca cīvaraṁ.

Dvinnaṁ antaravassānaṁ,
ekā vācā me bhāsitā;
Tatiye antaravassamhi,
tamokhandho padālito”ti.
