About Extinguishment (3rd)

So habe ich es gehört: Einmal hielt sich der Buddha bei Sāvatthī in Jetas Wäldchen auf, dem Kloster des Anāthapiṇḍika. Da nun leitete der Buddha die Mönche und Nonnen mit einem Dhammavortrag über das Erlöschen an, ermunterte, begeisterte und erhob sie. Und diese Mönche und Nonnen gaben acht, gebrauchten den Geist, waren mit ganzem Herzen dabei und spitzten die Ohren.

Und da er diese Sache verstand, drückte der Buddha bei dieser Gelegenheit dieses innige Gefühl aus:

„Es gibt, Mönche und Nonnen, das, was frei von von Wiedergeburt ist, frei von dem, was geschaffen, gemacht und bedingt ist. Wenn es nichts gäbe, das frei von Wiedergeburt ist, nichts, das frei ist von dem, was geschaffen, gemacht und bedingt ist, wäre ein Entrinnen von Wiedergeburt, von dem, was geschaffen, gemacht und bedingt ist, hier nicht zu finden. Aber da es das gibt, das frei von Wiedergeburt ist, das frei ist von dem, was geschaffen, gemacht und bedingt ist, ist ein Entrinnen von Wiedergeburt, von dem, was geschaffen, gemacht und bedingt ist, zu finden.“

So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery. Now at that time the Buddha was educating, encouraging, firing up, and inspiring the mendicants with a Dhamma talk about extinguishment. And those mendicants were paying attention, applying the mind, concentrating wholeheartedly, and actively listening.

Then, understanding this matter, on that occasion the Buddha expressed this heartfelt sentiment:

“There is, mendicants, that which is free of rebirth, free of what has been produced, made, and conditioned. If there were nothing free of rebirth, free of what has been produced, made, and conditioned, then you would find no escape here from rebirth, from what has been produced, made, and conditioned. But since there is that which is free of rebirth, free of what has been produced, made, and conditioned, an escape is found from rebirth, from what has been produced, made, and conditioned.”

Evaṁ me sutaṁ— ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme. Tena kho pana samayena bhagavā bhikkhū nibbānapaṭisaṁyuttāya dhammiyā kathāya sandasseti samādapeti samuttejeti sampahaṁseti. Tedha bhikkhū aṭṭhiṁ katvā, manasi katvā, sabbaṁ cetaso samannāharitvā, ohitasotā dhammaṁ suṇanti.

Atha kho bhagavā etamatthaṁ viditvā tāyaṁ velāyaṁ imaṁ udānaṁ udānesi:

“Atthi, bhikkhave, ajātaṁ abhūtaṁ akataṁ asaṅkhataṁ. No cetaṁ, bhikkhave, abhavissa ajātaṁ abhūtaṁ akataṁ asaṅkhataṁ, nayidha jātassa bhūtassa katassa saṅkhatassa nissaraṇaṁ paññāyetha. Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi ajātaṁ abhūtaṁ akataṁ asaṅkhataṁ, tasmā jātassa bhūtassa katassa saṅkhatassa nissaraṇaṁ paññāyatī”ti.
